Texas at its bestist

Howdy Partner,

They say that everything is bigger in Texas. I think they should say, everything is cheaper in Texas than it is in Vegas. But I guess that would take years and years of advertising and millions of dollars to change what the State is known for, so we'll stick with "Bigger" for now. Coming from a $15 drink in Vegas to a $3 drink in Texas was like culture shock. Why does their need to be such a separation of Price here? Who do we need to speak with to get this taken care of? I think the US Government should subsidize alcohol like they do Milk, so we don't have to put ourselves in these types of situations anymore. But at the end of the day, we can say we had a great time in Dallas!

By far the best thing about being in Texas during the spring is the cooler weather. The weather her can average 104 degrees on a typical summer day! To cope with that heat restaurants and bars have water misting fans that spray on you. Sounds gross right? Not as gross as the fact when you walk outside you are instantly dry again because of the heat. So if you're going to experience the outdoors of Texas make sure you avoid the summer months.

After driving eleven hours from Albuquerque NM we arrived ready to party in Dallas. The nightlife was young and vibrant and the streets were bustling. Almost every bar/restaurant had an outdoor patio so you could enjoy a night with friends in the night air. Maybe this seemed like the best thing ever because we have been cooped up inside for the past 4 months enduring a cold winter. But nonetheless, our experience of Texas was off to a great start.

The original plan was to do Dallas in one night, but because of the great night we had we decided to do one more day. Big shout out to Neith Myrick for allowing us to crash at his place for both nights. This was one of the first days on our trip that we just relaxed and practiced the art of doing nothing. Melissa was thrilled because she could watch her beloved Red Carpet at the Oscars and I was ecstatic because the Knicks beat the Heat (Go Celtics!).

After our relaxing day we hit the road and made the Journey to Austin TX for the afternoon. Our first stop was at the Botanical Gardens in Austin where I took the role of Photographer. I used this very exotic model that I found in my travels through the world. We are not quite sure where she is from but she claims she is from Western Massachusetts. By her complexion i would say she is from Portugal or Venezuela... The photo shoot was Amateur at best, but the model made everything look spectacular.

Everyone told us that Austin was there favorite city in Texas so we were off to see why that is. We wondered the streets for an hour or so until we stumbled onto South Congress. The street stood out because it was filled with trendy boutique shops and food truck stands. Our favorite stop was at a local Antique gallery that seemed to be a giant time capsule. The owners work with 25 different individuals that travel to estate sales around the country and sell their items at this shop. We have been big into all the cool antique shows on T.V. lately so we tried to put what we learned into effect. It turns out you need to do all the haggling on price at the estate sales and not the retail store... Oh well we still had a great time. Austin is definitely the most liberal, diverse, and cultural city in Texas. We left that night and headed to our hotel room in Houston.

Next time we visit Austin it will be for the South By Southwest music festival which happens every March.  We had a great time in Texas, but we had New Orleans in our sights and nothing was going to hold us back from Mardi Gras!
